Tulsa’s Oktoberfest named best in nation via USA Today poll

Zeeco Oktoberfest Tulsa has been voted the best Oktoberfest in the country this year in a nationwide poll conducted by the national newspaper USA Today, officials announced Thursday.

A panel of experts and USA Today “10 Best” editors nominated Zeeco Oktoberfest and 19 other Oktoberfests to participate in the monthlong public vote.

“Congratulations to the many volunteers and sponsors that make this annual celebration possible,” Mike Dodson, chairman of the Zeeco Oktoberfest Tulsa board of directors, said in a press release issued by River Parks Authority. “Most importantly, we extend our appreciation and recognition to the thousands of Tulsans that have attended the festival since 1979.”

Other Oktoberfests that finished in the top 10 were Cleveland Oktoberfest in Cleveland, Ohio; Oktoberfest Vail in Vail, Colorado; and Delaware Saengerbund Oktoberfest in Newark, Delaware, which finished second.

The festival, inspired by the original Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, is held at River West Festival Park. It includes international and local German bands, Bavarian cuisine and arts, crafts, games, and activities for children.

This year’s event begins with the BierMeister’s Ball on Oct. 15, followed by Corporate Night the next day. The festival is open to the public Oct. 17-20. Tickets can be purchased at tulsaoktoberfest.org.

This is the 45th year Tulsa has put on an Oktoberfest. It is also Zeeco’s 45th year in business and 50 years since River Parks Authority was established.

“This recognition showcases Tulsa’s vibrant culture, community spirit, and dedication to hosting world-class events,” said Jeff Edwards, executive director of River Parks Authority. “At River Parks, we are proud to support such an iconic celebration, and we look forward to continuing to provide beautiful space for festivals that bring people together and put Tulsa on the map.”

Zeeco Oktoberfest Tulsa is produced by a full-time River Parks employee who reports to the festival’s board of directors.

“It’s a true partnership and could not be done without both parties involved,” Edwards said.
