KALISPELL, Mont. — U.S. Sen. Jon Tester visited Kalispell to discuss the need to lower housing costs.
Tester’s First-Time Homebuyers Act would help Montana families buy a first home.
The act would help establish a refundable credit from tax.
That tax can be worth 10% or $15,000 max.
Tester says he knows housing is expensive and wants to keep Montanans living in the state.
“The housing is getting really really expensive,” said Tester. “What makes this bill a little different than any other bills is it directs the Department of Housing and Urban Development to set up rules so the tax credit can be used as a down payment on a home for qualified buyers”.
Not only will this act help first time homebuyers but will help businesses with hiring their employees that can afford livable housing.
“It’s time we start taking steps to increase inventory and allow first time homeowners to get into their home,” said Tester. “Why? Because it’s important from a workforce standpoint. Businesses out there that need to hire employees. They can’t grow. They can’t expand if they don’t have an employee basic afford to live here”.
