My second Iowa Hawkeye game was on September 14, 2024, and the experience was quite awesome. This time I was on the field. You can see those pictures below.

I had heard of the Hawkeye Wave but had not experienced it. We arrived at our first Hawkeye game late many years ago, I know, a horrible way to treat the game. We didn’t miss the Hawkeye Wave at our first game. They hadn’t started the Hawkeye Wave yet. According to HawkEyeSports.com. the Hawkeye Wave began in 2017.

It is an experience for sure. The announcer lets the crowd know it’s time for the Hawkeye wave and the entire stadium turns and faces Stead Family Children’s Hospital and waves. The kids and families at Stead Family Children’s Hospital wave back. The hospital looks over Kinnick Stadium so the children getting treatment and families have a hawk’s eye view of the game. They have enough to deal with and shouldn’t have to worry about a seat. They should have some of the best seats in the house.
USA Today wants you to let them know what you think the best college sports tradition is. The Hawkeye Wave is up for your consideration. If I’m being honest and I always am, except when, most of the time I am not, there are 9 other entrants. I don’t even think they are worth your consideration. The Hawkeye Wave has everything, tradition, waving, and it’s for children, uh, I think we have a winner here!! ok, ok, I suppose we have to go through the motions. If you would, please let USA Today know you think The Hawkeye Wave is tops!
