Maryland sending out mail-in ballots now, plus other key election dates to know

Maryland State Board of Elections

The Maryland State Board of Elections will send the first phase of the 2024 General Election mail-in ballots to registered voters who requested them, starting Friday, Sept. 20.

More than 578,000 ballots are being mailed and more than 91,000 are being delivered via the web. For ballots sent by mail, it is expected that voters will receive their ballot within five days.

Maryland voters can still request a mail-in ballot. Here’s how.

Voters can still request mail-in ballots. To receive a mail-in ballot by mail, a request must be received (not just mailed) by Wednesday, Oct. 29.

The deadline to request a web delivery mail-in ballot is Friday, Nov. 1. For more information, go to SBE’s mail-in ballot webpage at https://elections.maryland.gov/voting/absentee.html.

“Mail-in ballots are a convenient and secure way to cast your vote in the upcoming election,” said State Administrator Jared DeMarinis. “Marylanders who want to cast a mail-in ballot should submit their request as soon as possible and have a plan to cast their ballot either by secure drop box or the U.S. Postal Service. Voters with questions about their voting options should contact SBE or follow us on social media as their trusted source of election information.”

SBE also announced that 286 ballot drop boxes have been installed for use in all counties and the city of Baltimore. A list of locations is available online (also available in Spanish).
