A golden concoction produced in eastern Iowa has been named the No. 1 bourbon in the state, according to experts in the industry.
Iowa’s Cedar Ridge Barrel Proof Bourbon received the recognition on the list of the best bourbons from each state.
VinePair, a digital media company focused on beer, wine and spirits, released a list Wednesday of “The One Bourbon You Should Bring Home From Every State.”
What did experts say about Cedar Ridge’s bourbon?
“Iowa and corn go hand in hand, so it’s no wonder the state is producing some excellent bourbon,” VinePair wrote in the blurb about Cedar Ridge Distillery’s bourbon.
The list-makers give credit to master distiller Murphy Quint and the rest of the team at Cedar Ridge, “which also makes some tasty single malt,” the news release stated.
“Cedar Ridge Barrel Proof Bourbon is not to be missed, with depth of flavor to rival famed Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana producers. Thankfully, it’s becoming gradually more available nationwide,” VinePair wrote.
Cedar Ridge is located near Swisher, Iowa, and is owned by master distiller Murphy Quint and his family.

Cedar Ridge has received other honors
VinePair isn’t alone in its affection for Cedar Ridge products.
This year, Cedar Ridge Double Barrel Bourbon Whiskey was awarded “Best in Show” at the TAG Global Spirits Awards in Las Vegas. Its QuintEssential Portside American Single Malt Whiskey earned a rating of 97 out of 100 from Wine Enthusiast.

Cedar Ridge Bourbon also made the 2023 “Top 25 Most Important American Whiskeys Right Now” list from VinePair, coming in at 21st in the rankings.
In the summer of 2019, Des Moines-based heavy metal band Slipknot partnered with Cedar Ridge Distillery to create its own craft spirit, No. 9 Iowa Whiskey.
