Williston, VT. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency has officially been in Vermont for just 30 days, but in that time the agency reports it has approved over $4 million to help those recovering from flooding in July.
President Joe Biden’s disaster declaration, FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration have been assisting Vermonters in Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Essex, Lamoille, Orleans and Washington counties.
According to FEMA staff, $4,656,478.22 has been approved for assistance across over 1,400 households in the state. In a cost break-down, FEMA has reportedly given $2,701,000.26 to renters and homeowners.
To replace personal property and provide necessities to the community, FEMA has also approved $1,955,477.96. Necessities covered under funding so far have included childcare, storage, medical expenses and more.
The SBA has also reportedly approved over $448,900 in loans.
Vermont’s FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Barre, Hinesburg, Island Pond, Lyndonville and Waterbury have had hundreds of visitors so far. DRC is open to any survivors, and does not require an appointment.
Flood victims can also apply for assistance online through DisasterAssistance.gov, on FEMA’s mobile app, or by phone at 1-800-621-3362. Phone lines are open from 7 a.m.-10 p.m. seven days a week.
