JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WCYB) — There were less than two minutes on the clock – closing in on an inspirational win – but in an unfortunate turn of the tide, ETSU football saw a program-changing win slip through their fingers at the hands of No. 2 North Dakota State on Saturday.
Now, it’s all about recuperating the pain – and moving on.
“We have to let it behind us. We can’t let it affect next week,” said a dejected Tre Lamb. “I think we can use it as a springboard of confidence.”
The pain coming from Lamb when he addressed the media following the shocking defeat was just a small part of the pain also passed down to the locker room of players. Despite that, many of the players believe that they’re performance gave them much hope moving forward.
“I want to say I have the most confident in my teammates. I have more trust in them than I have in myself,” said quarterback, Jaylen King. “I trust in my guys that everyone is going to do their job and then we just go out there and play.”
So as the Bucs prepare for a new battle on the road at Elon, Lamb and company will rely on their belief in one another to get passed this moment and carry on a winning season – and more importantly take the next step in a winning program.
If these guys keep fighting and showing up, the ball’s going to bounce our way. One of those is coming for us. It always comes back around,” said Lamb. “We’ll find a way to win a game we’re probably not supposed to win – if we have guys in that locker room that keep believing and keep working.
