A candidate for the Atlantic City Board of Education has sent a letter to School Board President Shay Steele.
Ron Bailey is calling for the Atlantic City Board of Education to suspend La’Quetta Small without delay.
La’Quetta Small is the superintendent of public schools for the Atlantic City Public Schools system.
On September 17, 2024, an Atlantic County, New Jersey Grand Jury indicted La’Quetta Small on child abuse charges.
La’Quetta Small is the wife of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small.
According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office:
Marty Small, Sr., 50, and his wife, La’Quetta Small, 47, of Atlantic City, NJ were both indicted for second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Marty Small, Sr. was also indicted for third-degree Terroristic Threats, and third-degree Aggravated Assault.
Bailey has called upon Steele to do his job and take the appropriate action when an educational leader is criminally charged with child sbuse.
By comparison, Constance Days-Chapman was immediately suspended following the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office direct charging her with a variety of crimes.
Days-Chapman is the principal of Atlantic City High School.
Days-Chapman is very closely politically aligned with with Marty and La’Quetta Small.
Days-Chapman has also been indicted in this matter by an Atlantic County Grand Jury a few weeks ago.
In Bailey’s letter to Steele, he wrote:
Dear Mr. Steele, I am writing to request that the Atlantic City Board of Education convene a special meeting to address the newly announced indictment of the current Superintendent of Schools. It is imperative that the board act promptly on this matter. Specifically, I urge the board to move to suspend the superintendent until this matter is resolved. This action is necessary to prevent disruptions to the day-to-day operation of the Atlantic City School District and to demonstrate transparency and fairness. It is important to note that the only individual who has been removed from their position thus far due to this matter is Principal Constance Days-Chapman, who was suspended with pay. Suspending the superintendent will show that there is no favoritism or prejudice within the School Board regarding this matter. I believe that taking this step is in the best interest of both the Atlantic City Public Schools and the residents of Atlantic City and surrounding districts. I appreciate your attention to this matter and kindly request that you reach out should you have any concerns. Sincerely, Ron Bailey – School Board Candidate/Resident
It remains inexplicable that La’Quetta Small wasn’t suspend many months ago.
It’s simply noticeable to remain as superintendent, while facing serious child abuse criminal charges.
A suspension, pending disposition of her criminal charges is clearly warranted.
