Former Alabama transfer Tony Mitchell commits to Mississippi State

A former Alabama Crimson Tide football player made news late Wednesday night, as transfer safety Tony Mitchell announced his commitment to return to the SEC next season and play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Mitchell, who transferred from Alabama during this past offseason, took to social media to make the announcement Wednesday night.

A four-star prospect, Mitchell originally came to Alabama as a member of the Crimson Tide’s 2023 recruiting class. At the time, Mitchell was considered as one of the top safeties in the state where he attended in-state Thompson High School, and was a multi-year starter for one of Alabama’s top prep programs.

Once in Tuscaloosa however, Mitchell would see fairly limited action as a true freshman, recording only one tackle during the 2023 season. Despite this however, the four-star was among the candidates to see an increase in playing time in year two, but instead entered the transfer portal back in April where he ended up at East Mississippi Community College.

Now committed to Mississippi State as well, that means that Mitchell will officially make his return to the SEC in 2025.
