The Tennessee Titans have everything, except for what they want.
The Titans (0-2) host the Green Bay Packers (1-1) at Nissan Stadium on Sunday (noon, FOX), trying to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2009. The back-to-back losses to start his tenure aren’t what coach Brian Callahan hoped for, but they also haven’t been enough to make him believe the Titans aren’t on the right track.
“We actually just talked to our leadership group today that the definition of faith is belief in something without proof,” Callahan said Wednesday. “Right now we don’t have any proof that we’re doing things the right way when it comes to wins and losses, but that’s coming. I believe in all those things very, very much. I believe in my ability and the ability of people in this building to make sure that we get things squared away and keep pushing forward. That part I don’t have a problem with.”

Callahan said his faith in this team comes from a belief in himself, his staff and his players. He says he’s observed people following the correct process, handling the locker room the right way and working to improve in the right areas.
Patience isn’t difficult for Callahan. He says understanding that improvement takes time comes naturally to him. But he also preaches about how opportunities are limited in an NFL season and how wins are currency.
“There’s a patience part, but again, there’s also an urgency part that goes into it,” Callahan said. “Whatever we have to get better at, we have to get better at it fast. Every week we go out there, there’s good teams that if you don’t play right, they’re going to beat you. We’ve got to be on the other end of that where we take advantage of a team that doesn’t do things the right way enough. It’s a process that’s ongoing, but trust me there’s plenty of urgency to get that landmark.”
The only coach in Titans franchise history who’s lost his first three games leading the team was Jeff Fisher, who lost three in a row in 1994 after stepping in as a midseason replacement for Jack Pardee. No non-interim coach has ever began his first season 0-3, though the 1971 Houston Oilers did begin 0-2-1 under coach Ed Hughes.
