The 15 Aberdeens of the USA from famous cities to villages and townships

The Americans adore Scotland, with some even extending that adoration to ‘invent’ ancestry to give them a reason to make the long flight over the Atlantic.

Scots flocked to the States en masse as part of the British Empire while searching for a new life, and evidence of that is scattered across the USA today.

And with that are plenty of links back to the north-east of Scotland, including villages, townships and even cities named after Aberdeen.

Across the 50 US states, there are 14 containing their own Aberdeen, with one even having two Aberdeens and another being within a city named after its English equivalent.

Some may be less well-known, while most will have heard of Aberdeen, Washington, the birthplace of Kurt Cobain who went on to front the iconic band Nirvana.

But there are plenty of other places to explore if you fancy a ‘Scottish road trip’ across the States, and we’ve compiled a list of every Aberdeen in the US.
