The Nebraska Cornhuskers are off to their first 3-0 start in almost a decade following a 34-7 win over FCS opponent Northern Iowa last weekend and are preparing for a top-25 showdown this Friday against Illinois. A win this weekend would put the Huskers just two wins away from playing in their first bowl game since the 2016 season.

The latest bowl projections courtesy of USA TODAY have the Huskers heading to Florida to play in the Citrus Bowl against a top ten program, the Ole Miss Rebels. Lane Kiffin, the son of former Husker standout and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, leads the Rebels.

The Huskers and Rebels have only met one time previously, that matchup occurring in the 2002 Independence Bowl, a 27-23 Ole Miss victory.

In this week’s projections, three Big Ten programs are projected to be in the playoffs in Ohio State , Oregon, Penn State. The projections have both Penn State and Oregon advancing out of the first round while the Buckeyes get a first round bye before playing Alabama in the Rose Bowl.
