Alabama will hold races for its seven congressional districts, as well as a race for chief justice of the Supreme Court. There’s also one state measure on the ballot dealing with the Franklin County Board of Education.

U.S. House of Representatives

Alabama’s 1st, 2nd, 6th and 7th Congressional Districts will hold elections this year. The United States Supreme Court ordered the state to redraw its congressional map after finding the current layout gerrymandered, discriminating against Black voters in a 5-4 ruling. While the state initially refused to redraw the map, defying a federal court order, the map was eventually redrawn, creating an opportunity for a 2nd minority district.

U.S. Senate

Neither of Alabama’s U.S. Senate seats are up for reelection this year. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s term will end in 2026. Sen. Kattie Britt’s term will end in 2028.

Alabama State Senate

Alabama will not hold State Senate elections this year. The next election cycle for this body will be in 2026.

Alabama State House

Alabama will not hold State House of Representatives elections this year. The next election cycle for this body will be in 2026.

Alabama State Supreme Court

Republican incumbent Justice Sarah Stewart is running against judge Greg Griffin for Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court. Justice Stewart was elected to the State Supreme Court in 2019. Judge Griffin currently serves in Alabama’s 15th Judicial Court. The Alabama State Supreme Court elects all of its judges and currently has a 9-0 Republican majority. Justices in Alabama are no longer eligible to run after turning 70 years old.

State Measurements

Alabama has one statewide measurement on the ballot this year. The measurement is to allow the Franklin County Board of Education to manage, sell or lease lands or natural resources from the lands within in the Franklin County School System located in Walker and Fayette County.
