New voter ID laws in Ohio and other states

Enacted in 2023 after Republicans pushed for voting restrictions in 2020, the Buckeye State has implemented stricter voter ID laws as the nation races to the presidential election, according to USA TODAY.

During the primary elections last March, more than 8,000 voters did not have their votes counted because their ID was not accepted, USA TODAY reports. Before you arrive at your polling station, keep in mind that your ID must be a photo ID, government-issued, and unexpired.

What is National Voter Registration Day?

The event started in 2012 and has worked to get more than 5 million people registered in time for their next trip to the polls, according to its website. The group requires its partners to be nonpartisan, not representing a political party or candidates.

National Voter Registration day is endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State, the National Association of State Election Directors, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center).
