Best apple cider donuts in NJ: Video
Go to our poll and vote! Voting will be open each week from 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.
Who needs plastic hoops when you have sugared rings? Why watch slam dunks when you can make cider dunks?
And, Air Jordans for flying? More like grease baskets for frying.
That’s right, New Jersey — we’re back for another round of apple cider donut madness, not March Madness.
Just like our less exciting basketball counterparts, however, we’re highlighting a Final Four, and things are getting heated. By the end of the week, we’ll narrow down the search for the Garden State’s most delicious fall dessert to only two competitors.
Which local farms will face off in that ultimate battle, though, is up to you — so let’s get to it.
Vote below for who you think belongs in our final cider donut showdown.
A refresher on the rules:

Demarest Farms vs. Hacklebarney Farm
Is Demarest Farms the most well-known PYO farm in Bergen County? It might be. Founded in the mid-1800s, the “jewel” of the area (as the team calls it) offers a variety of u-pick produce for guests to enjoy. When we visit, however, we don’t pick any pumpkins, strawberries or peaches — because we’re too busy blowing our budget on an obscene amount of hot, tasty apple cider donuts. Go: 244 Werimus Rd., Hillsdale; 201-666-0472, demarestfarms.com.
Apple cider floats, apple cider twists, apple cider hot dogs — if it has cider in it? Hacklebarney Farm is making it. It comes as no surprise, then, that the spot boasts top-tier apple cider donuts. What does come as a surprise, however, is how many ways the farm team serves them. In the past, they’ve offered cider donut French toast, cider donut ice cream sandwiches and cider donut-topped slushies; all of which are fan-favorites. Go: 104 State Park Road, Chester Township; 908-879-6593, hacklebarneyfarm.com.
Windy Brow Farms vs. Terhune Orchards
Everything the bakers, chefs and ice cream makers serve at Windy Brow Farms is fantastic. From artisan pizzas to wood-fired meatballs, the Fredon Township gem has a menu to rival a restaurant — and we’re so here for it. After you grab an apple cider donut, then, we urge you to stay for dinner. But, if you can’t, you’ll still be wowed by one of the freshest, most mouthwatering fried rings in the state. Go: 359 Ridge Road, Fredon Township; 973-579-9657, windybrowfarms.com.
Terhune Orchards is a Princeton-based farm and winery committed to producing the highest quality produce through sustainable practices. Its crops are clean and organic, ensuring a fresh, delicious taste. Grab an apple cider donut while traversing its environmentally-friendly fields, then, and be impressed by a dessert that is made with the same lofty standards. Go: 330 Cold Soil Road, Princeton; 609-924-2310, terhuneorchards.com.
