US developer inks deal to send LNG from Louisiana to Europe

Gas exported from Louisiana will be delivered to Europe using a floating import terminal in Greece, U.S. developer Venture Global announced Tuesday.

Virginia-based Venture Global said it has reached a binding, long-term agreement with Greek company Gastrade that will enable the regasification and sale of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, to European markets via the Alexandroupolis receiving terminal in northeastern Greece.

The deal will expand the company’s “European regasification capacity,” Venture Global CEO Mike Sabel said in a statement shared with POLITICO’s E&E News.

“As a major point of entry for LNG into Central and Eastern Europe, this strategically important infrastructure will be a game changer for the region’s ability to diversify their energy and access a secure and reliable energy supply,” Sabel said.
