Fall leaves in Pa. to be ‘gorgeous’ despite summer’s heat

The days are getting darker earlier. There’s a chill in the air.

And before you know it, the leaves in Pennsylvania will have changed into their fall best.

Pennsylvania Department of Conservation & Natural Resources (DCNR) won’t release its annual fall foliage report until later this month (Sept. 26, to be exact), but experts informed sources such as Axios Philadelphia that autumn 2024 is shaping up to be a “beautiful,” vibrant one despite this summer’s heat.

This is against what other sources such as the Tribune-Review are saying: Basically, that those scorching temperatures most people experienced this year will have made for a less vibrant autumn.

According to Axios, these experts believe that current meteorological conditions such as a mix of precipitation as well as cool (but not freezing) nights appear to be readying the Keystone State — which is a destination for those of you looking to “leaf peep” — for “one of its best fall foliage seasons in recent years”

Indeed, the Pocono Mountains website has released its own fall foliage forecast predicting how the northern and central parts of the state might change as soon as early October. Those in the southern region may not get a dose of this rich fall reds, orange, and yellows until mid- or late October.

“So far, it’s shaping up to be a gorgeous fall foliage season this year,” told natural resource program specialist of the DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry, Ryan Reed, to GoErie.com.

“I believe it’s going to be fantastic this year.”
