A new deal has been reached between Disney and DirecTV, which is good news for those looking to watch OU and OSU football.
After a five-year contract to have Disney’s content on DirecTV’s satellite and streaming services ended on Sept. 1, Disney’s content went dark on DirecTV as the two companies worked out a new deal. The blackout occurred during Week 1 of the college football season, affecting numerous games on Disney’s ABC and ESPN networks.
But Disney and DirecTV reached an agreement in principle on Saturday for the distribution of Disney’s linear networks and direct-to-consumer services. All channels have been immediately restored to DirecTV satellite, streaming and U-Verse customers.
“DirecTV and Disney have a long-standing history of connecting consumers to the best entertainment,” Disney and DirecTV said in a joint statement. “This agreement furthers that commitment by recognizing both the tremendous value of Disney’s content and the evolving preferences of DirecTV’s customers. We’d like to thank all affected viewers for their patience and are pleased to restore Disney’s entire portfolio of networks in time for college football and the Emmy Awards this weekend.”
The new deal comes just in time for Week 3 of the college football season. OSU will face Tulsa on the road at 11 a.m. Saturday on ESPN2, while OU will host Tulane at 2:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
