President Joe Biden will deliver remarks at the National HBCU Week Conference on Monday.

Biden’s remarks at the event for historically black colleges and universities come as the nation’s political landscape is once again disrupted by an attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump.
The attack came nine weeks after the Republican former president was grazed by a bullet at a rally in Pennsylvania. It cast a pall over a presidential race that was already marked by upheaval. And it comes as early voting begins in some states.
As he boarded a helicopter to fly to Delaware before a subsequent trip to Philadelphia on Monday, President Joe Biden said “thank God the president is OK” while also saying that the Secret Service “needs more help” and urging Congress to provide additional resources to help the agency.
That followed Biden saying in a statement Sunday night that he’d directed his aides to ensure the Secret Service has everything it needs to fulfill its protective mission.
Rice University historian Douglas Brinkley said the “deeply troublesome” event coming on top of an already dramatic year with an election looming has created “a kind of uncertainty across the land.”
Said Brinkley, “2024 has just unspooled in a chaotic and frightful fashion. It’s impossible for anybody to get footing in their daily lives with a news cycle that is so constantly grim and absurd.”
