Dad of school shooting victim rips Donald Trump Jr. for assassination ‘B.S.’

The father of a Parkland School shooting victim called out Donald Trump Jr. for his “B.S.” statement on the second assassination attempt of the former president on Sunday.

The FBI said former President Trump was the target of “what appears to be an attempted assassination“ at his Florida golf club on Sunday. Donald Trump Jr., the son of the former president, described telling his children about the latest assassination attempt in a post on social media platform X.

“You know what’s getting really old? Having to have conversations with my 5 young children about radical leftist trying to kill their grandfather. No person should ever have to do this in America or anywhere else and yet I had to have that conversation five times again yesterday,” Trump Jr. wrote in a Monday post on X.

Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaime was killed in the Parkland high school shooting in 2018, criticized him for his post on Monday as he called for more to be done to end gun violence. He also called out the former president for politicizing his daughter’s murder.

“You know what’s getting old? Having you and your father politicize gun violence. Unlike your children that you are using for this purpose, my daughter was killed in the Parkland shooting,” Guttenberg wrote on X.

“I remember when your dad also politicized her murder. How about instead of your BS, use this as your chance to call for less gun violence,” he continued.

David Hogg, a survivor of the Parkland school shooting and founder of March for Our Lives, also weighed in on the assassination attempt. He posted a screenshot of Trump’s statement saying he was safe after shots were fired on Sunday with the caption, “But don’t worry guys we don’t have a gun problem.”

The Parkland high school shooting left 17 people dead and another 17 people injured. Since the death of his daughter and other students and staff, Guttenberg has become a national advocate to end gun violence.

The survivors of the Parkland school shooting lashed out at Trump at the time for his comments following the incident, suggesting that he was “divisive” and criticized him for making the shooting “about Russia.”

The former president and his allies have blamed Democrats’ “rhetoric” for the second assassination attempt of Trump.

“He believed the rhetoric of Biden and Harris, and he acted on it,” Trump said Monday in an interview with Fox News Digital, speaking of the suspect in the second assassination attempt. “Their rhetoric is causing me to be shot at, when I am the one who is going to save the country, and they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out.”

U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire on Sunday after seeing a person with a firearm near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club in Florida while he was golfing. No injuries were reported. Officials say the person fled in an SUV and was later apprehended by local law enforcement.

He was identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, three law enforcement officials told The Associated Press. The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.

Routh appeared in federal court in Florida Monday and was charged with federal gun crimes.
