Mississippi State had the worst showing of any team in the SEC during a blowout loss to Toledo at home on Saturday. ESPN has yet to upload the highlights from the ugly beatdown, which sparked a conspiracy theory that might actually have legs.

Is the Southeastern Conference blocking its national cable partner from sharing the embarrassing performance?

There is more legitimacy to the conspiracy theory than you might think. This is not the first time that this has happened.

Is the SEC blocking bad highlights?

Auburn lost to New Mexico State at Jordan-Hare Stadium in 2023. It was a massive stain on the best conference in college football. In no scenario should a Conference USA program that had just five winning seasons since 1990 should beat an SEC team on its home turf. Upsets happen but that cannot.

On the Sunday following the Tigers’ embarrassing loss, the Worldwide Leader uploaded highlights of every SEC game from that Saturday to its ‘ESPN College Football’ channel on YouTube. Except for one.

Video evidence of the Aggies’ upset win at Auburn was nowhere to be found. That remains true today. If you Google “Auburn New Mexico State Highlights 2023,” all of the videos are on non-affiliated channels. They are on channels like ‘KTSM 9 News’ or ‘All sports highlights,’ but not ESPN— which aired the game.

The same thing happened in Week 3 of 2024.

Highlights went live to the ‘ESPN College Football‘ channel on Saturday as games went final across the country. Every SEC game that aired on an nationally televised ESPN network (not ESPN+) was featured. Even some that didn’t air on an ESPN network got posted!

There was just one glaring omission.

Toledo trounced Mississippi State 41-17 on ESPNU as 10.5-point underdogs. The Rockets got paid a lot of money from two different schools to embarrass the Bulldogs in Starkville.

Unfortunately, neither the victors nor their fans can watch back their full game highlights on ESPN’s College Football channel on YouTube. Video does not exist. It is nowhere to be found.

Coincidence? Perhaps. You can be the judge…
