Grand Traverse Pie Company unveils new Pure Michigan treat in a classic fall flavor

Grand Traverse Pie Company

TRAVERSE CITY, MI – Who doesn’t love the classic taste of an apple pie, especially when the fruit is from a Northern Michigan orchard and piled high into a flakey crust? Grand Traverse Pie Company is taking this fan favorite up a notch this fall in its pie partnership with Pure Michigan.

A new pie flavor that gets to share the state’s tourism branding – Pure Michigan Maple Glazed Apple Pie – is being rolled out later this month for a limited release. The handmade pies will have hints of maple syrup and cinnamon, and will be brushed with a sweet maple glaze. They will be available in 6-inch and 9-inch sizes.

The new pie flavor can be purchased at all Grand Traverse Pie Company shops, as well as in grocery stores in Michigan and Indiana. It will be available Sept. 23 through December.

The Pure Michigan Maple Glazed Apple Pies can also be purchased online for delivery at the company’s website here.

The popular pie shop chain says it will use apples from the Amos family farm near Traverse City, and the fruit is being processed by the Smeltzer Orchard Company in Frankfort.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Grand Traverse Pie Company to highlight Michigan farmers and our state’s rich agricultural diversity,” said Kelly Wolgamott, vice president of Pure Michigan, the tourism arm of the state’s Michigan Economic Development Corporation. “Bringing the flavors of Michigan-grown apples and GTPC’s signature Maple Glaze together in one Michigan-made pie creates a delicious Pure Michigan pairing that is the perfect way to celebrate the fall harvest season.”

The partnership behind the pie will also help support early childhood development at MI Kids Matter, an in-state resource that assists children and their parents in getting ready for big education milestones like starting kindergarten and learning to read.

For Grand Traverse Pie Company co-founders Mike and Denise Busley, partnerships that benefit their communities and children are important.

“Our Michigan growers nurture each apple, cherry and blueberry that go into our pies. Caring for fruit early on leads to a better pie … just like nurturing each child leads to greater outcome, stronger humans and greater success later in life,” the couple said.

It’s not the first time Pure Michigan has partnered with this Up North pie company, with the benefits highlighting MI Kids Matter. Earlier this year, a Fruits of Summer pie campaign followed the same track.

“This fall pie collaboration continues the relationship between Grand Traverse Pie, Pure Michigan, and the folks at MI Kids Matter. Grand Traverse Pie is honored to be aligned with these vital organizations and the hardworking growers and processors of our great state. We call it ‘The Power of Pie!’“ Mike Busley said.
