Former President Donald Trump was playing golf on Sunday afternoon in Florida when a Secret Service agent noticed a man armed with a rifle near a chain-link fence at the edge of the course, according to law enforcement officials. The agents opened fire, and the suspect fled in a black Nissan but was eventually apprehended, the officials reported.
Though Trump was unharmed, the FBI is investigating the incident as a potential assassination attempt, the second targeting the former president in just over two months.Trump sustained an injury during a prior attempt on July 13 at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The suspect was identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh from Hawaii, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the ongoing investigation.
