What makes New York Knicks fans so confident their team is a threat to the Boston Celtics? By all accounts, the Knicks got better this offseason, but like the Celtics, they happen to share a key flaw in their frontcourt rotation. Unlike Boston, they have not won a title with such a flaw, but on closer inspection they are not quite the same problem.
The Celtics’ biggest flaw is an extended absence for Kristaps Porzingis that could exceed the 37 contests he missed last season. In the Knicks’ case, they simply do not have the sort of big man on their roster at the moment they will likely need to be the best version of themselves. What other factors need to be considered when comparing the two Eastern Conference teams?
