Vanderbilt football safety CJ Taylor was ejected for targeting during the fourth quarter of the Commodores’ game against Georgia State on Saturday.
The call was confirmed upon review, as all targeting calls must be, according to the targeting rules in college football. Also according to those same rules, Taylor will be required to miss the first half of Vanderbilt’s game next Saturday which will be held against Missouri in Columbia for the Commdores’ SEC conference opener.
Taylor made the hit on Panthers wide receiver Ted Hurst. Before the ejection, Taylor had recorded three tackles, as well as a quarterback hurry. The play occurred when Georgia State had the ball up 22-17, and the Panthers subsequently ended up scoring a touchdown on the drive, which put them up by a score of 29-17 with 11:42 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The loss of Taylor for the first half of the Missouri game will surely be a significant blow to Vanderbilt’s defense as Taylor is one of the team’s top players as well as a captain.
