Curtains for Billy Napier? Swampcast discusses Florida football SEC loss to Texas A&M at The Swamp

Florida football suffered a disheartening 33-20 loss to Texas A&M that may signal the beginning of the end for head coach Billy Napier.

The loss dropped the Florida Gators (1-2, 0-1 SEC) to 12-16 under Napier and was UF’s seventh straight against a Power Four conference opponent dating back to the 2023 season. The USA Today’s Matt Hayes is reporting that buyout money has been raised to move on from Napier, who is owed more than $26 million if he gets fired without cause.

In Saturday’s postgame Swampcast, the Sun’s Kevin Brockway and David Whitley discussed if the loss was the final nail in Napier’s coffin. Whitley wrote that it’s time for the Gators to move on from Napier.

“I thought Miami was worst case scenario, this is worst case scenario 2.0,” Whitley said. “It basically confirmed all the fears Florida fans had coming out of Miami.”

Brockway pointed out that Florida has failed to show progress in three seasons under Napier, as the Gators have gone from 6-7 in year one to 5-7 in year two to trailing by 28 points in the second half in a loss to Miami and 26 points in the second half in a loss to Texas A&M.

“This looks like it’s going in the opposite direction,” Brockway said. “Billy Napier said going into the season it’s his most talented team, but this team to me, looks less talented than it did two years ago. “
