Wisconsin game-by-game schedule record prediction after Alabama loss

Wisconsin game-by-game schedule record prediction after Alabama loss

Wisconsin was dealt a reality check on Saturday. The No. 4-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide traveled north to Madison, Wisconsin, brought a national spotlight and left Camp Randall Stadium with a 42-10 blowout victory.

The loss drops Wisconsin to 2-1 on the young season. More importantly, it showed the sizable gap between the Badgers and the sport’s elite. Wisconsin’s schedule still includes games against No. 11 USC, No. 8 Penn State, rival Iowa, No. 9 Oregon and No. 23 Nebraska. A proper takeaway from the blowout loss is that the Badgers must greatly improve for any of those future matchups to look like wins.

Adding injury to insult, Wisconsin will likely move forward without starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke. The veteran was injured during the Badgers’ first offensive drive of the game. He missed the remainder of the contest. Luke Fickell speaking postgame was not optimistic about his long-term outlook.

But how much does Van Dyke’s injury and the blowout loss on national television affect Wisconsin’s rest-of-season outlook? Here are ESPN FPI’s latest game-by-game predictions for the rest of the Badgers schedule:

Wisconsin needs a bye week after that performance. Importantly, it now gets a two-week runway to prepare Braedyn Locke to start at USC. The team should look better prepared than it was when Van Dyke went down in-game.

Wisconsin’s second bye week leads into the most important part of the schedule. It is right before the Badgers host top-ranked Oregon and finish with critical games against rivals Nebraska and Minnesota.

For the sake of the team competing late in the year, this is a well-timed bye week.
