This ‘Survivor’ castaway has ‘survived’ Titans seasons, Fiji is next

Titans fans might recognize a familiar face on this season of “Survivor,” but don’t be fooled, it’s not someone you’ve regularly seen throw the ball down the field at Nissan Stadium.

A to Z Sports reporter Sam Phalen, who has covered the Titans since 2022, is one of the competitors on Season 47 of CBS’s long-running reality TV show “Survivor”. The 24-year-old, along with 17 other castaways, are competing against each other in group and individual challenges for the title of “sole survivor” and the $1 million prize that comes with it. This season, the group is stranded on an island in Fiji.

In a video, Phalen describes watching the show as a child with his brother and how the show has had a hold on him since then.

“Sports and ‘Survivor’ were like two of my things growing up,” Phalen said. “And you kind of hit the age where you realize, hey not going to be a professional athlete for a living, how else can I be involved.”

That love of sports drove him into becoming a sports reporter, and while the dream of becoming a professional athlete didn’t come true he has been able to be in the same locker room as them for the last several years. And he is taking his ability to connect with people, while learning about what makes them tick, to the “Survivor” island.

“Survivor,” hosted by Jeff Probst, has been on the air since 2000.

Like seasons before, castaways come from a variety of different backgrounds, and together they must learn to build community all the while attempting to vote each other off the island.

When does Season 47 of ‘Survivor’ premiere?
