It’s Week 3 of the South Dakota high school football season. Week 2 was loaded with marquee matchups, and this week of games is no different.
This season, we’re predicting the results of each game featuring Sioux Falls-area teams each week and will provide an update about how successful – or unsuccessful – those picks were in the following week’s predictions.
Last week we correctly predicted the winners of all nine Sioux Falls area matchups.
Here are our predictions for the best SDHSAA games this week.

South Dakota high school football predictions Week 3No. 1 Sioux Falls Christian at No. 3 Lennox
Sioux Falls Christian 42, Lennox 28: This will be the most exciting game of the week as two of top high-powered offenses in 11A collide in Lennox. The Chargers have shown their capability on defense as well though, slowing down a then-ranked West Central, only allowing 13 points in Week 1. They also only allowed 22 points against No. 5 Rapid City Christian. The Chargers might just be the buzzsaw that slows the Orioles hot start.
No. 5 O’Gorman at No. 3 Brandon Valley
Brandon Valley 28, O’Gorman 7: The Lynx haven’t allowed more than one touchdown in a game this season. The Knights might be their toughest test thus far, but they’ve struggled to open the season. They did score 19 points against Lincoln last week so this could be a turning point for them, but it’ll be difficult against Brandon Valley’s defense.
No. 2 Lincoln vs Roosevelt
Lincoln 42, Roosevelt 7: The Patriots have looked one of the best teams in 11AAA since they opened their season a couple weeks ago. Their offense remains explosive and their defense is one of the best in the class. On the other hand, Roosevelt scored only seven points against Jefferson, and Lincoln should be able to hold them to at least seven points.
No. 4 Jefferson vs Washington
Jefferson 35, Washington 7: The Warriors have struggled to open the season and we don’t anticipate they’ll earn their first win of the season against the rolling Cavaliers. Jefferson has only allowed no more than one touchdown in a single game and their offense has been in high gear too. The Cavaliers should win this one relatively easily.
Rapid City Central at No. 1 Harrisburg
Harrisburg 56, Rapid City Central 7: Rapid City Central has been competitive in every game they’ve been in thus far, but they’re yet to face a team of the Tigers’ caliber. Harrisburg is still undefeated after an impressive 14-0 win over O’Gorman and a big 41-7 domination over Washington. The Tigers should roll to 3-0.
No. 1 Canton at Vermillion
Canton 35, Vermillion 14: Vermillion is coming off a big 55-0 win over Lakota Tech but the last time they faced a top team in 11A they fell 48-13. The C-Hawks have yet to score more than 20 points in a game but are due for an offensive explosion.
Tea at Huron
Tea 42, Huron 7: The Titans bounced back from a shock Week 1 loss with an impressive 39-7 win over then No. 5 Aberdeen Central. They held a top five team in 11AA to only one touchdown on defense. The Tigers on the other hand have suffered massive losses to two other 11AA contenders in Pierre and Yankton.
West Central at McCook Central
West Central 56, McCook Central 14: The Trojans were in prime form last week against Belle Fourche, dominating on both sides of the ball. They scored over 50 points and only allowed two touchdowns. We predict they’ll reach that same level of domination against an 11B foe.
