Author and vocal Donald Trump critic Stephen King has suggested the former president should consider dropping out of the 2024 election.
Not one to keep his political opinions to himself, King has previously described Trump as “dangerous” and a “horrible” person and president. King has made many of his jibes against the real estate mogul on social media.
In his latest X post, the celebrated horror author wrote: “Perhaps Trump should take a leaf from Joe Biden’s playbook and announce he is dropping out of the race. That way he can say, ‘I could have won.'”

Newsweek emailed King and the Trump campaign for comment.
At the time of writing, the post had 223,000 views and had been reposted 1,400 times.
It was met with mixed responses. Some followers agreed with King’s sentiment.
“I’m surprised his followers aren’t demanding he drop out after his abject fail like they did with Biden,” wrote one user.
“Saving face would be the best he could do for himself but don’t think he has that much ability to think rationally,” said another user in agreement with King
Others seemed to agree with King but professed a desire to see Trump lose the election, with X user replying: “Don’t tempt the man, I prefer to see him lose.”

However, some disagreed with King’s recommendation.
“Trump doesn’t need to drop out to say ‘I could’ve won.’ He’ll just win outright,” replied one X user.
Another rebuke read: “Perhaps Stephen you should just stick to the clown books.”
This post is the latest from King – who joined the Democratic party in 1970 – attacking the former president.
Following the ABC debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump on Tuesday night, King’s X post calling Trump “barking mad” went viral.
In another post about the debate, King wrote: “Politics aside, America saw a man who has no business being near the levers of power. Simply put, he’s crazy.”
Referring to moments when Donald Trump was fact-checked during the debate – on points such as rising crime levels and illegal immigrants abducting and eating pets in Ohio – King wrote: “Thier [sic] moderators [ABC’s] had to keep fact-checking Donald because he kept telling whoppers. Guess he forgot he wasn’t on the Fox News network.”
Earlier in September, King criticized both Trump and his running mate for not hosting any campaign events on Labour Day, despite doing so in previous election cycles.
“Trump and Vance aren’t campaigning today, and why would they? They don’t give S*** One about the working man,” said King in an X post.
Not reserving his contempt for Trump alone, the author has also taken aim at other senior Republican figures. Recently, King accused Florida Republican senator Rick Scott of “basically” buying his senate seat.
King argued that Scott spent $160 million of his own money to win Florida. It is unclear where this figure came from.
