US Sen. John Kennedy comes home to Louisiana for Hurricane Francine, issuses statement

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — U.S. Sen. John Kennedy said “I guess it could always be worse” as Hurricane Francine makes its way through Louisiana on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Kennedy said he arrived in Louisiana from Washington D.C. on Tuesday night in the wake of Francine’s landfall on the state Wednesday. Kennedy explained that he decided to come back home to Louisiana as he felt like he “needed to be here with my people.”

“Look, this whole thing sucks,” said Kennedy. “I’m sorry we’re having to go through it. I guess it can always be worse, but that doesn’t matter if you get any damage. Let’s just get through safely. I’ll be out and about trying to help everybody tomorrow.”

Kennedy was one of several Louisiana members of Congress who urged President Joe Biden to expedite the state’s request for emergency declaration before Francine’s landfall earlier this week.

“Don’t worry about federal assistance,” said Kennedy. “We’ll get it. That’s why we all pay taxes.”

“My head, but especially my heart, and my prayers are with each and every one of you,” said Kennedy. “And, be safe.”
