Monroe County man convicted for false statements while buying guns from Dunkelberger’s

A Monroe County man was convicted in federal court on Tuesday, Sept. 3, for straw purchases of firearms.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, 33-year-old Delvin Hutchinson, of Stroudsburg, was convicted after a four-day jury trial of three counts of lying while purchasing firearms.

According to his indictment, Hutchinson acquired six firearms — two Hi-Point Model JHP 45 .45 caliber pistols, a Taurus Model TH40C .40 caliber pistol, a Remington Model RP45 .45 caliber pistol, a Taurus Model Th9041T 9mm pistol, and a Smith & Wesson Model M&P 15 5.56 caliber rifle — from Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitter between March 9 and 28, 2019. Hutchinson was accused of making false statements that he was buying the rifles for himself to the federal firearms dealer.

When the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) interviewed Hutchinson, he claimed that some of the firearms were stolen when he was found not to be in possession of any of them. During the trial, it was presented that Hutchinson had purchased the firearms for other people despite saying that they were for him, U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam’s office said.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert D. Mariani scheduled sentencing for Jan. 9, 2025.

The case was investigated by the ATF with assistance from the Bensalem Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert O’Hara and Sarah Lloyd.
