The first presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump is in the books, and now folks are registering to vote in preparation for the November election.
One voter with something to say was global pop superstar Taylor Swift, whose comments on the race have been eagerly anticipated by her fans. She said she’s done her research and encouraged her fans to do the same.
“I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered!” Swift reminded fans in a post on Instagram.
Swiftie or not, here’s how you can register to vote in Iowa.
How do I register to vote? What if I’m not registered yet in Iowa?
Iowans can register to vote ahead of the election online on the Iowa Department of Transportation’s website or by downloading a form from the Secretary of State and mailing it to the local county auditor.

What is the deadline to register to vote in Iowa?
Your registration form must be received by your local county auditor by 5 p.m. on Oct. 21. Online registrations will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 21.
If I miss the deadline, can I register at the polls on Election Day in Iowa?
Iowa voters also can register to vote at the polls on Nov. 5 but must bring proof of identity and residency, like a utility bill, paycheck or lease.
To qualify to register to vote, you must:
Be a U.S. citizen.Be an Iowa resident.Be at least 17 years old as long as you will turn 18 on or before Election Day.Not be judged mentally incompetent to vote by a court.Not claim the right to vote in any other place.

How to see if I am registered to vote?
Iowans can check to see if they are registered to vote at voterready.iowa.gov. Voters can become inactive and eventually be removed from the registration rolls if they do not vote in general elections.
