Rhode Island voters choose nominees for US Senate

Rhode Island voters head to the polls Tuesday in the state’s primary election.

According to the secretary of state, all polling places open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m., with the exception of New Shoreham, which opens at 9 a.m.

Voters will be choosing candidates for U.S. Senate.

Incumbent Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, who’s seeking his fourth term, faces Michael Costa in the Democratic primary.

On the Republican side, state Rep. Patricia Morgan and Raymond McKay are fighting for their party’s nomination.

There are no contested primaries in either U.S. House district.

A handful of General Assembly races have primaries.
