Jeannette Vargas, a veteran of the Manhattan US attorney’s office who’s had civil litigation, tax, and bankruptcy leadership roles, was confirmed to the federal trial court there.
The Senate confirmed Vargas on Tuesday 51-43 as President Joe Biden’s seventh appointment to the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Vargas and Adam Abelson, who was confirmed to the District of Maryland earlier in the day, represent the first of what Democratic leaders promise will be a greater push to confirm a backlog of Biden judicial nominees with time running short to do so.
