Let’s become okay with removing firearms from dangerous people
For Tennesseans, the 2023 Covenant School shooting and subsequent rallies at the capital reinforced again the urgency of implementing gun safety regulations.
The tragic Apalachee High School shooting and the routine “thoughts and prayers” and shallow analyses of the shooter’s mental health only underscored the pressing nature of this issue.
Before our collective grief fades and we brace for the next mass shooting, I propose a thought experiment to reconsider our stance on gun safety. Imagine a loved one returning home after rehab for alcohol abuse whose struggles have likely caused you immense pain – watching them make poor decisions, risk their health, and strain relationships.
You face a crucial decision as someone who enjoys an occasional drink and has a well-stocked bar. Possessing qualities – willpower, self-discipline, sound priorities – that your loved one seems to lack, you choose to secure or remove the alcohol. You understand that making it harder for your loved one to access it is a compassionate and wise choice, reflecting a commitment to their recovery that prioritizes their well-being over personal convenience.
Similarly, we must apply this compassionate logic to gun safety. Recognize that some people, for various reasons, may not make safe choices about firearms. Our collective safety depends on our willingness to implement measures that prevent easy access to guns for those at risk of making dangerous decisions that impact themselves and others, even at the expense of inconveniencing those of us who handle guns responsibly. Our lives depend on this united effort locally and nationally.

Wake up to the problem of gun violence
How to go about killing many kids (people) and keep your hands clean! Buy your teenaged kids an AR style weapon and kid yourself “it’s only for hunting” then let your kid who already gave signs of disturbance open arms to be able to do his wishes.
What is going on with people today? Did the NRA and the GOP brain wash you so much to believe that owning a weapon of war in your home with or without kids is A O.K.? It is a weapon of war not a hunting rifle to shoot birds or deer. Wake up! Guns do kill whether in a crazed persons hands or just an Average Joe’s hands who get angry at those around them.
Yes, it is guns that kill not the person holding it; he or she is just the vehicle of its use.
