Arizona poised to pass border crackdown with Proposition 314 — but will it boost Trump?

New polling from the Grand Canyon State shows a clear path for Proposition 314, a ballot measure that would allow police to do what the feds aren’t — clamp down on illegal immigration.

According to the August survey of 1,000 registered voters from Noble Predictive Insights, the measure is on track to pass with a resounding 63% in favor, and just 16% opposed. An additional 22% say they either won’t vote on the measure or have yet to decide how they’ll cast their vote.

The measure is popular across the political spectrum, reading as a clear rebuke of the Biden-Harris administration’s failed border enforcement policies: 77% of Republicans, 57% of independents, and 53% of Democrats are on board.

Additionally, 58% of college grads back it, along with 56% of Hispanics and 52% of voters under 35.

The measure’s popularity is driven by two components.

First, criminal penalties for drug dealers who poison customers with deadly fentanyl, which 77% of respondents support.

Second, the creation of an E-Verify system to check workers’ immigration status, which gets a thumbs up from 75% of those surveyed.

“Prop 314 is popular across party lines, and that is a difficult trend to disrupt with only a couple of months until Election Day,” said Mike Noble, NPI’s founder and CEO.

The ballot measure’s popularity measures against the backdrop of Democratic deficiency on border enforcement and the Republicans capitalizing on the vacuum. Last month, J.D. Vance was in Arizona, blaming the “Kamala Harris administration” for the porous border.

Recent polling suggests Trump may take the state. RealClearPolitics shows Trump leading Harris in its average — 47.9% to 47.4% — in the race for Arizona’s 11 electoral votes.

And don’t forget — a victory by less than half a percentage point would trigger an automatic recount in the state.

A recent NPI poll showed Trump leading the VP by 3 points in Arizona, despite that Harris did what Biden couldn’t: lead with Latinos and independents over the GOP nominee.
