PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A significant weather pattern change is on the way to Arizona, bringing much-awaited relief from above-average temperatures.
It will be a hot start to the week, with a forecast high of 109 degrees in the Valley today. Under a ridge of strong high pressure, highs will climb even higher tomorrow to near 110 degrees. Drier air moving into the state will bring slim storm chances today only to the higher elevations. Look for sunshine and light winds in the Valley.
On Wednesday, a strong trough of low pressure begins to move onshore in the Pacific Northwest. As this treks by to the north of Arizona this week, winds will pick up in the state on Thursday and Friday, with cooler air moving in behind the trough Friday and into the weekend.
Temperatures will drop to near-normal on Friday with a forecast high of 104 degrees, with below-average temperatures near 100 degrees by next weekend.
There is also a chance for tropical moisture to the south to make it to Arizona over the weekend. This would bring increased rain chances Saturday night and Sunday. We’ll keep you posted on that, as there is a lot of uncertainty with the timing and location of the moisture at this point.
