The scene at the USA BMX Legacy Nationals in Tulsa is all-out action, as riders of all ages and levels showcase their talent.
Justin Wahl is in charge of race engagement and he’s been looking forward to hosting yet another competition at the USA BMX headquarters.
“Welcoming people from across the country into Tulsa once again, but this time under our roof, to just battle it out and enjoy everything we have to offer in this facility,” he said.
This competition is just one out of nearly 27 that riders compete in each year — but Wahl says the time and sacrifice are what sets pros apart.
“Really diving in headfirst into that sport and giving it your all, that’s what it takes for these riders to go pro and make a living out of it,” he said.
Rider Keiley Shea is used to that lifestyle.
“I mean, I train usually like 6 days a week, which is a lot balancing it with school and stuff but it’s really fun, it keeps me sane,” she said.
She says she plans to go pro next year and the Legacy Nationals lets her hone in on her skills and amps her up for the season finale.
“I just want to try and see where I’m at and see where I need to get better before Grands in November,” said Shea.
Wahl says he’s expecting big things from Shea.
“She really has the potential to make that next jump into that pro class and who knows? Maybe even that ‘28 Olympic spot,” he said.
Shea expects that for herself too.
“My ultimate goal would be to make the Olympic team, either in 2028 or 2032,” she said.
This weekend might just be a glimpse into the future of the sport.
