Louisville’s Oksana Masters was one of six members on Team USA who combined to win a bronze medal in the H1-5 mixed team relay event in the 2024 Paralympic Games on Saturday morning.
The bronze is the third medal Masters has helped Team USA bring home in the 2024 Paralympic Games. On Wednesday, she won the the won gold medal in the H4-5 individual time trial. She took home the gold medal again on Thursday in the H5 para cycling road race event.
Team USA is currently in third place in terms of total medal count, behind Great Britain at second and China at first.
In the H1-5 mixed team relay para cycling event Saturday, Team USA placed behind Italy at second and France at first, which bested the U.S. by one minute, 38 seconds in the event.
Louisville’s Oksana Masters was one of six members on Team USA who competed in the H1-5 mixed team relay event Saturday morning, in which Team USA earned the bronze medal.
Masters was born in Ukraine and moved to Louisville after she was adopted at age 8 by Dr. Gay Masters, a former speech pathologist at the University of Louisville, The Courier Journal previously reported.
The multisport athlete got her start in rowing as a teenager and has made multiple appearances in the summer and winter Paralympic Games in various rowing, cycling and Nordic skiing events. She has won a total of 19 overall Paralympic medals in her career.
Masters also acted as one of the torchbearers for the 2024 Paralympic Games during the opening ceremonies at the iconic Place de la Concorde in Paris.
