Confirm John Jay Hoffman to the New Jersey Supreme Court

On June 10, Gov. Phil Murphy announced his intention to nominate John Hoffman as the replacement for Justice Lee Solomon, who turned 70 and reached mandatory retirement on Aug. 17. Almost three months have passed since the nomination was announced. Although praise was forthcoming from all quarters, including Senate President Nicholas Scutari, Minority Leader Anthony Bucco and Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Brian Stack, no dates have been scheduled, or at least announced, for confirmation proceedings, including a hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. And nothing has been announced publicly to suggest Hoffman does not have the support of either of his home county Burlington County senators.

Hoffman is well prepared to serve on the New Jersey Supreme Court, having served as acting attorney general in the Christie administration from June 2013 (when Jeffrey Chiesa was appointed to serve the U.S. Senate vacancy caused by the death of Frank Lautenberg) to March 2016.
