Kansas was one of college football’s most pleasant surprises a year ago, and the Jayhawks carried that momentum into 2024 with a 48-3 win over Lindenwood. Quarterback Jalon Daniels played sparingly and completed 9 of 15 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown while the Jayhawks combined for 331 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Illinois was equally successful against an overmatched opponent in Week 1, blowing out Eastern Illinois, 45-0, at Memorial Stadium. Quarterback Luke Altmyer was sharp in the win, completing 19 of 24 passes for 213 yards and four touchdowns.
