The Boston Red Sox are getting back their star infielder and two-time All-Star Trevor Story. The Red Sox reinstated him from the 60-day injured list on Saturday.
The story will get the start on Saturday at shortstop and will bat seventh for the Red Sox against the Chicago White Sox at home. The 31-year-old will see his first action since early April when he suffered a dislocated shoulder. Story appeared in four rehab games prior to being activated and notched four hits in his final minor-league outing.
Story injured his shoulder while diving for a grounder against the Los Angeles Angels on April 5. At the time, it was thought it would be a season-ending injury. Instead, Story rehabbed and felt better than expected, regaining strength in his shoulder.

In a corresponding 40-man roster move, right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell was called up from Triple-A and placed on the big league version of the 60-day IL.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he is happy to have him back and didn’t think he would be back after the injury in April.
“Honestly, the baseball side of it is great. That’s awesome for us, but he’s ready to go,” Cora said. “Physically, we feel he’s in a good spot.”
“I remember that game in Anaheim (in April) and said ‘No chance. He’s not going to play,'” Cora said, “but I think going to California for his rehab, disconnecting from the day-in, day-out here helped him.”
Story left with a .226 batting average with four RBIs in eight games before the injury.
In his career, Story has been successful, being named a two-time All-Star during his time with the Colorado Rockies. In six years in Colorado, Story slashed .272/.340/.523 with a .863 OPS, 158 home runs, 450 RBIs, 768 hits, and 463 runs in 745 games and 3,136 plate appearances.
After six tremendous years as a Rockie, Story signed with Boston as a free agent, signing a six-year, $140 million contract. In three seasons as a Red Sox thus far, he has slashed .227/.288/.394 with a .681 OPS, 86 OPS +, 19 home runs, 84 RBIs, and 66 runs in only 145 games and 598 plate appearances.
Story’s time in Boston has been riddled with injuries, and that, unfortunately, was no different in 2024. Still, the Red Sox are only five games out of the final American League Wild Card spot, and they’ll turn to Story to take them over the top.
Boston is currently 71-70 with 21 games left on the schedule, including Saturday’s contest.
