The number one team in the nation kicks off Week 2 on Saturday afternoon with their home opener between the hedges against an FCS opponent and I have your Tennessee Tech vs. Georgia predictions.
While the Bulldogs will likely run away with this one early, my college football picks believe the Golden Eagles can stay inside the full-game number on Saturday, September 7.

My analysis
Georgia made it very well known that they are back to being the favorites in the college football championship picture last week with their thrashing of Clemson in Atlanta last week. Defensively, they are even better than advertised, holding the Tigers to 188 total yards of offense with two sacks and an interception. And their offense is no slouch either.
Despite losing several key targets, Carson Beck was able to spread the ball around for 278 yards and two touchdowns on a 69.7% completion percentage. True freshman running back Nate Frazier looked like a stud in his debut with 107 yards from scrimmage and a rushing touchdown. Depth is not an issue at the skill positions for the Dawgs.
Tennessee Tech held its own last week against Middle Tennessee State in covering the 24.5-point spread and only losing 32-25. However, there is still a reason they were underdogs by that big of a spread to a team that was projected to finish fourth in the Conference USA. And now they get the team ranked first in the entire country.
The Golden Eagles fell behind quickly though, as it was 21-0 in just 21 minutes of gameplay. They then went on a big run and took the lead with just 1:06 in the game. If they find themselves in a hole like that to Georgia, the game will get out of hand before halftime even hits.
Since Kirby Smart took over as head coach of Georgia in 2016, the Bulldogs have defeated their FCS opponents by an average score of 44.7-9.9 and 13.1-1.0 in the first quarter and 29.6-3.0 in the first half. As you notice, they jump up big early and then finish the final score with very little scoring in the second half.
This spread is just too big for Georgia to cover the full game spread and win by 55 points or more. They only average 44.7 points per game against FCS opponents and only 15.1 points per game in the second half. They will pull their starters early and just chew the clock in the second half to get the game over with and will be very unlikely they even reach 55 points let alone win by that many points.
