A Pakistani man was arrested this week for a disturbing ISIS-inspired plot to kill “as many Jewish people as possible” at a Brooklyn Jewish center on the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel, federal prosecutors announced Friday.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, 20, tried to travel from his home country of Canada to New York City to allegedly carry out the twisted attack – but he was busted Wednesday just short of the US border, Attorney General Merrick Garland said.

Khan was charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS.

“As I said to Canada’s Minister of Public Safety yesterday, we are deeply grateful to our Canadian partners for their critical law enforcement actions in this matter,” Garland said in a statement.

“Jewish communities — like all communities in this country — should not have to fear that they will be targeted by a hate-fueled terrorist attack,” he added.

Khan, also known as “Shahzeb Jadoon,” began sharing ISIS propaganda videos and expressing his support for the terror group in social media posts in 2023, according to the federal complaint.

During conversations with undercover FBI agents, Khan revealed that he and another ISIS-supporter based in the US were planning to carry out the attacks on Jewish centers in America and were seeking assault rifles and other materials, the Justice Department said.

Khan emphasized in the messages that “Oct 7th and oct 11th are the best days for targeting the jews” because “oct 7 they will surely have some protests and oct 11 is yom.kippur.”

“New york is perfect to target jews” he wrote, because it has the “largest Jewish population In america” and therefore, “even if we dont attack a[n] Event[,] we could rack up easily a lot of jews.”

Khan also claimed that “we are going to nyc to slaughter them,” and sent a photograph of the targeted location, which was not disclosed.

Using three separate vehicles, Khan began driving to the US but was stopped around Ormstown, a town in the Canadian province of Quebec that is about 12 miles from the U.S. border, federal authorities said.

If convicted, Khan faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

The case is being handled by the Manhattan federal prosecutor’s office. It’s unclear when Khan will be extradited to the US to face the charges.
