FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Miss Minnesota, Emily Schumacher toured the Sanford Heart Clinic as part of her community service initiative, “The Heart of Matter.”
Touring the clinic she talked to several doctors and nurses along the way about what Sanford has to offer.
Her mom being an Emergency Room Physician Assistant led her into the world of medicine.
Currently, Schumacher is working to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.
Now as Miss Minnesota, she gets to advocate for heart education and life-saving skills of CPR.
“Helping people is what really sparked my interest in medicine in particular but when it comes to cardiothoracics it’s really .. The heart keeps us alive. I mean if the heart is not beating we’re not living,” said Emily Schumacher, Miss Minnesota.
Schumacher will be working on finishing her degree and eventually applying to medical school by fall of 2026.
