Jaime Ffrench commits to Texas Longhorns college football: video
With a big smile and an even bigger chain, Mandarin receiver Jaime Ffrench announced his college football commitment Friday. Watch the big moment.
September is here for Florida high school football in the Jacksonville area, and with the arrival of Week 3, the season is advancing closer to the heart of the 2024 calendar.
Games of note on the calendar include a battle of schools from Duval County’s far east with Fletcher crossing the Intracoastal Waterway to take on Atlantic Coast; a contest of unbeaten independents with Old Plank Christian making the drive to St. Joseph’s Versaggi Field; Clay’s trip from Green Cove Springs to face Middleburg; and Columbia’s home game against Hillsborough in a collision of old-time Florida football powers, Hillsborough’s first game on record against Northeast Florida opposition for generations.

Top FHSAA Week 3 games, Jacksonville area
Trinity Christian (1-1) at Raines (2-0), 6:30 p.m.: Both teams have already faced Bolles ahead of this private-public contest, with Trinity losing and Raines winning. The teams played in four consecutive years from 2019-22, each won by Trinity. Dual-threat quarterbacks match up: Hicks Zarah led the Conquerors in rushing last week, and Raines junior T.J. Cole is always a breakaway threat. Last meeting: Trinity 41-28 (2022).
Baker County (1-1) at Ponte Vedra (1-1), 7 p.m.: Two teams that responded well to opening-week losses. Drew Price threw two second-half TD passes to lead the Sharks past Bartram Trail in a big early-season victory, while Robbie Grieco, Martin Geary and Ryker Kemp created havoc on the D-line. Baker County erased memories of its opening week loss to Bradford by thumping Palm Bay 35-7, including a Rhett Rhoden pick-six. Last meeting: Baker County 26-7 (2021).
Bishop Kenny (2-0) at Tocoi Creek (2-0), 7 p.m.: Bishop Kenny’s Derek Heideman has thrown more touchdown passes (seven) than incompletions (five) in 2024. Is that sustainable? Not necessarily, but it’s a sign of good things for the Crusaders as they travel to fellow unbeaten Tocoi Creek. The Toros pack a punch on the ground, where Davian Garcia and Vincent Galella combine for 384 yards. Last meeting: Bishop Kenny 23-20 (2023).
Bolles (1-1) at St. Augustine (2-0), 7 p.m.: A rematch of an epic from last year. St. Augustine’s Carl Jenkins Jr. and Trenton Jones return in the receiving game for the Jackets, but their most prolific threat so far has been junior Somourian Wingo. Bolles bounced back nicely last week with 102 rushing yards from Emmett Grzebin and more downfield highlights from Naeem Burroughs. Last meeting: St. Augustine 43-36 (2023).
Oakleaf (2-0) at Fleming Island (1-1), 7 p.m.: A classic Clay County clash with quality ground games. Demhir Jackson rushed for 113 yards as Fleming Island put up a fight even without QB Cibastian Broughton, losing 48-39 at Riverside. Oakleaf, meanwhile, has been steamrolling opponents by a combined 77-7, with Christopher Foy II churning out yardage behind a mauling offensive front. Last meeting: Oakleaf 24-14 (2023).
South Sumter (1-1) at Bradford (2-0), 7:30 p.m.: The Tornadoes welcome a Class 3A contender in South Sumter, which lost to Niceville in Week 1 before routing Ocala Forest and brings major prospects in Pitt-committed running back Ja’Kyrian Turner and Georgia-bound safety Rashad Johnson. Special teams and defense, led by Jeremiah McKenzie, Duke Lewis and Trente Jenkins, continue to lead Bradford. Last meeting: South Sumter 9-6 (2020).
