Sep. 5—AUSTIN — Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday reaffirmed Texas’ enduring and unwavering support for the State of Israel, the Israeli people, and Israel’s right to self defense as they continue their fight against the brutal terrorist organization Hamas at the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) Annual Leadership Summit in Las Vegas. During his remarks, the Governor also emphasized the need to return Donald J. Trump as President of the United States to ensure America has a president that stands with Israel.
“There is a deep, enduring bond between the people of Texas and the Jewish community in both America and in Israel,” Abbott said in a news release. “As we approach the one-year anniversary of October 7th, Israel remains under constant threat. Last November, I visited Israel and saw firsthand the carnage caused by Hamas. It was sheer evil and savagery unmatched by anything I have ever seen. One thing is certain, Israel is both right and righteous in pursuing the elimination of Hamas, and the United States must do everything in our power to support them.
Washington must be ready to fight the spread of antisemitism as we have been doing in Texas. We need leaders who understand the perils we face. We need a President who will stand with Israel and not compromise its future. We need Donald J. Trump as President of the United States. He will make clear to the world that the United States and Israeli alliance is once again a strategic bedrock for our nation. That America is stronger with a strong Israel. Together, we will ensure that our generation continues to respond to the challenges we face so that America remains a beacon of freedom for people around the world.”
Speaking to a large crowd of Republicans and party activists, Governor Abbott highlighted Texas’ ongoing efforts to bolster security and combat antisemitism across the state, including anti-BDS legislation he signed into law, awarding $10 million in grants to bolster security in synagogues, and deploying Texas Department of Public Safety troopers to college campuses to enforce Texas law at antisemitic protests earlier this year. The Governor also mentioned his visit to Israel following the October 7th terrorist attack, detailing his visit to a hospital in Tel Aviv where he met with victims who were attacked by Hamas during a music festival.
