The USA beat Morocco 2-0 for its first win at the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
The Americans dominated the match, finishing with a 32-4 edge in shots, but they did not break through until the 48th minute when the University of Virginia’s Yuna McCormack, a late addition to the team, opened the scoring.
Substitute Maddie Dahlien (University of North Carolina) added a second goal in stoppage time to move the USA past Paraguay for second place in Group C on goal difference behind Spain.
• Next up: The USA and Paraguay meet in the group-stage finale on Saturday in Bogotá. The U-20 World Cup has been expanded to 24 teams, so the four third-place teams will go through to the round of 16.
