How Paris is showing up to support Paralympic athletes

Fans have packed stadiums in Paris to show their support for athletes throughout the Paralympics.

Morgan Ray is now the proud owner of a silver medal.

The Northeast Florida swimmer helped the United States to silver on Thursday in the 20-point mixed 4×50-meter medley relay for para swimming at the Paralympics in Paris.

Ray, who previously earned fourth-place and sixth-place finishes at these Paralympics, swam the breaststroke leg of the four-swimmer relay along with American teammates Ellie Marks, Abbas Karimi and Leanne Smith to touch the wall in 2:31.01. The quartet’s time set a new record for North and South America.

China won the relay in a world-record 2:24.83, and Ukraine earned the bronze.

Ray, 22, was born with achondroplasia, a genetic condition that affects bone tissue. Standing 4 feet, 5 inches tall, he currently attends the University of North Florida and has raced for both Bartram Trail High School and the Bolles Sharks club.

He nearly qualified for the Paralympics in Tokyo three years ago, but had to settle for an alternate role on that occasion.
